The Crackdown on Cracking

So you think your password is strong? New technology allows hackers to bruteforce, or try all dictionary words and then try random combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols, much faster. Estimates now are that a bruteforcing program can do 17,179,869,184 passwords per hour!

So now do you think your password is tough? Most passwords these days ask that you provide at least six letters with some capitalization and numbers in it. Well let's pretend your password consists of 5 random lowercase letters, 2 random upper case letters, and 2 random numbers, the high efficiency programs will take under 24 hours to crack this. And don't get me started on passwords consisting of dictionary words! Currently the English language contains one billion words, but a bruteforcer can do eighteen times that many passwords in an hour and it will usually crack your password in less than seconds since you probably won't be using long medical terms as your password. It's estimated that 25% of passwords can be cracked in less than minutes. Mandylion Research Labs put together this cool excel file that can estimate just how long it would take to crack a password.

So what can you do? If you're really paranoid you can choose a password comprised of 10 purely random letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and special characters ( 65,315,679 days to crack). So, how can you make this kind of password? Well you can use the Ultra High Password Security Generator and copy only a part of the password generated. Also, be sure you don't just leave your password in a text file, put it in a highly encrypted storage program such as KeePass Password Safe. But, even then, if enough computers were used, then it would take a mere couple thousand of hours to computer your password, however it's unlikely anyone would do that.

What if you're on the other end of the spectrum and want to hack someone's password? Well, if you're the average computer user then you probably won't get very far. Although there is this nice guide by Russian Password Crackers that explains the background of it all. Not to mention the cost of most bruteforcing programs, but for those cheapskates there are excellent programs such as John the Ripper, Cain, and RainbowCrack (which works a bit differently).

After that test it on the Microsoft download center and go to a download which requires Windows Genine and it should work!

- And you can download the WGA special offers like OneNote2003 6 month trial!
it works 100% for me!

First make a blog... (Choose any template you want since you're just going to trash it).

Then find a template. Two open source web template sites: OpenWebDesign and OpenSourceWebDesign. You can edit them easily with NVU or DreamWeaver

Now if you want to have images on the site you must upload to another site (Such as a photo hosting site), and then link to them in the site. If you want CSS, you got to put the CSS within the <head> </head> using the tags:

Best Anti-Spyware

A few stand out, mainly Spybot, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and Spyware Blaster. The first three are scanners each with their own special tools including realtime scanning, encrypted file deletion, and history erasor. Spyware Gaurd is more of a realtime scanner (Like Anti-Virus) of spyware while you're downloading. Spyware Blaster is different in not being a scanner, but prevents spyware from installing on your computer in the first place (Spybot includes a robust version of this). All four programs are recommended since each is not 100% efficient.

Best Anti-Virus

A few come to mind, but my favorite is AVG from Grisoft, which includes updates, real time scanner, and an email scanner. Another good one is AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic which includes many of the same features. Do keep in mind that free anti virus clients are not up to par with paid ones according to testings.

My favorite by far is ZoneAlarm which is simple for begginers and contains a barrage of features for more advanced users. Another option is Sygate Personal Firewall includes all the same functions for the same price.

Ewido really helps stop hijackers, spyware, worms, dialers, trojans, and keyloggers. It includes a great scanner and realtime scanner. I couldn't believe my eyes after I ran CCleaner, it removed around 1.5 Gigs in unused application data and internet cach (Which I thought I removed through the disk cleaner). You might want to turn off cookie deletion if you save your passwords on forums and such.

TrueCrypt can create virtual encrypted disks, can encrypt an entire hard disk partition or a device, such as USB flash drive, and provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password.

Best Md5 Checksum Creator/Checker

This open source utility is used to calculate the MD5 checksum of a file using L. Peter Deutsch's MD5 code. One of the most common uses is to make sure that a file that you have downloaded is not corrupt. Some websites post the MD5 checksum of a file on their download page. Once you have downloaded the file, use winMd5Sum to get the MD5 checksum of the file on your computer. Then make sure that the MD5 checksum from the web site is the same. If they are the same, then your file is exactly the same as the file on the website.
